EFL Sky Q Installation Rollout | Case Study

Sports Stadia Technology Solutions

The English Football League (EFL) is the organisation responsible for managing professional football leagues in England below the Premier League. It oversees three divisions — the Championship, League One and League Two — which together comprise 72 clubs competing across the country.

Founded in 1888, the EFL plays a key role in the English football pyramid, governing league competitions, setting regulations, supporting club sustainability, and developing the game at professional level.

The Brief

In response to updated EFL broadcast regulations and evolving requirements for Sky Sports, TVC Technology Solutions partnered with Sky and Uniguest to deliver a large-scale Sky Q rollout across 30 EFL clubs nationwide.

Each installation was tailored to the individual stadium, with Sky Q seamlessly integrated into existing AV infrastructures to ensure consistent, high-quality broadcast delivery.

Working around live matchdays, club-specific schedules and a wide range of technical environments at each stadium, the project required precise planning, detailed technical surveys, flexible engineering expertise and a steadfast focus on ensuring uninterrupted matchday operations, while meeting the operational needs of every club involved.

The Delivery

Site Surveys

Following confirmation of the EFL clubs included within the programme, TVC Technology Solutions undertook a structured site survey process, engaging directly with each club to arrange detailed on-site assessments.

These surveys were essential in gaining a clear understanding of existing AV infrastructures, operational workflows and matchday requirements, allowing our engineers to identify potential challenges early and plan each installation with precision and efficiency.

Bespoke Installation Services

Every EFL club presented a unique AV environment, often built on a patchwork of legacy and modern infrastructure, with a wide range of distribution methods in place across hospitality areas, concourses, directors boxes and back-of-house spaces.

To eliminate risk before installation, we carried out comprehensive, in-depth site surveys at each stadium, identifying and resolving potential challenges long before arriving on site. This meticulous planning enabled Sky Q to be integrated seamlessly into existing AV networks across 30 clubs, delivered without disruption, delays or complications.

These enhanced installations provided clubs with greater flexibility and control over their day-to-day and matchday entertainment offerings, ensuring reliable access to live EFL fixtures and premium broadcast content via Sky Q.

With increasing emphasis on maximising revenue streams, the ability to showcase live football throughout the stadium encourages supporters and hospitality guests to arrive earlier, remain on-site longer and make greater use of food, drink and hospitality facilities.

The result is an improved fan experience, increased dwell time and a tangible boost to commercial opportunities for EFL clubs.

Club-Specific Addons

In several instances, clubs requested additional, tailored solutions to further elevate the matchday experience for both hospitality guests and general admission fans in corporate boxes, concourses, and external facilities such as club shops.

TVC Technology Solutions worked closely with each club to deliver bespoke upgrades that enhanced engagement, accessibility, and entertainment throughout the venue.

Middlesbrough – Installed high-impact window screens and dynamic digital signage in their dedicated club shop via Uniguest to attract and engage visitors.

Rotherham United – Developed and installed a customised Sky Q control solution, enabling live feed switching from anywhere within the stadium. Delivered a state-of-the-art stadium-wide distribution system, including low-latency 4K encoders for seamless improved IPTV delivery.

Bradford City - We audited their existing distribution system, streamlined and upgraded their AV rack to include a new video distribution element and customised Sky Q control solution, which enabled club staff to flexibly change the content displayed on screens from anywhere in the stadium via a tablet. Additionally, we upgraded their commercial digital signage to greatly increase the flexibility of content on matchday.

Grimsby Town – Installed a prominent outdoor roadside 3.5m x 2m LED screen, alongside additional TVs in suites and lounges, maximising visibility and fan engagement.

Preston North End – Expanded Sky Q functionality within the Sir Tom Finney suite and director's boardroom, adding premium features to the standard package.

Port Vale – Provided additional TVs and upgraded the supporting infrastructure within corporate suites and the players’ lounge to enhance viewing and hospitality experiences.

Tranmere Rovers - Expanded Sky Q functionality within the club's fanzone bar.

These bespoke enhancements not only enriched the fan experience but also provided clubs with greater flexibility to showcase live content, drive engagement, and maximise commercial opportunities across all areas of the stadium.
