Puttstars | Case Study

Hospitality Technology Solutions

Puttstars is a mini golf experience like no other. With 5 venues and counting, they’re all about creating memorable experiences for their customers. Whether it’s the teamwork it takes to get the ball over the bridge or cheering for a hole in one; no matter who plays, they play together. Plus, the putting pros out there don’t need to worry about bringing their own equipment, there’s putters and balls for everyone. They live by their motto: mini golf – maximum fun!

The Brief

With the success of their other locations, Puttstars decided to open a 5th venue in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Having built a reputation for their intricate mini golf courses, elaborate branding, and an array of amusements for the whole family; it was vital that this new location maintained the same level of fun-packed entertainment. The client requested the supply and install of a variety of AV equipment including LED video wall displays to connect to their existing digital signage system and a high-quality audio system powerful enough to cover the whole venue.

The Delivery

Always wanting to impress customers with the calibre of branding and design at their venues, the client chose to include 2 x video walls differing in size throughout the premises – located behind the upstairs and downstairs bars. We opted for Philips 49” video wall display screens because of their ultra-narrow bezels that slot together to create one large, clear, and cohesive image. Puttstars now use these video walls to display their show-stopping marketing materials and current food/drinks offers to customers queuing at the bars.

Wanting another outlet to show off the brand’s quirky messaging and unique sense of humour, we fitted 2 x portrait 75" Philips Ultra HD Q-Line Displays offering superb picture quality and stunning contrast in the entrance areas. Mounted on B-Tech Ultra Slim Pop-Out Wall Mounts, they enable quick and easy access to the rear of mounted screens for servicing and maintenance. The Ultra HD displays will catch the eye of customers as soon as they walk through the door and provide added kerb appeal to passers-by with the exceptionally crisp images on screen. In addition, the FailOver function allows the Philips Professional Displays to switch automatically between primary and secondary inputs, reassuring staff that the content will keep playing even if the primary source goes down.

Puttstars also wanted their customers to be able to keep track of their scores in comparison to other players, whether they’re in their group or not – their aim is to encourage some healthy competition between friends and other players on their climb to the top of the leader board. To facilitate this, 4 x black freestanding 50" digital totem displays were erected which update automatically with the daily leader boards. The freestanding digital totem displays have an integrated android media player which permits the easy edit of on-screen content via the existing digital signage player.

With a sizeable premises like this one, it’s vital that the audio set up is powerful enough for sound to permeate to every corner. A mixture of high-performance foreground loudspeakers and surface mounted speakers was rolled out by TVC Engineers. In the higher footfall areas such as around the bars, a mix of 8” and 10” Audac Loudspeakers were fixed providing exceptional accuracy and clarity. An additional 34 x 6” Cloud speakers were strategically located throughout the golf courses to create a fully immersive audio experience for customers.

A final requirement for the project was a huge, branded sign to be positioned above the upstairs and downstairs entrances. Instead of opting for a standard acrylic sign which is limited to one set of messaging, we implemented 2 x state-of-the-art 4.5 metre LED displays that link up to the existing digital signage system facilitating the edit of the content across the panels. Each LED display was comprised of 6 x Absen 2.9pp 500mm x 750mm LED panels, interlocking to create an impressive 4.5-metre-wide sign. Currently, the LED signs read ‘Mini Golf and Good Times’ once again reiterating the brand’s fun culture and motto.
