Motor Isle Bar & Grill, Isle Of Man | Case Study

Hospitality Technology Solutions

Motor Isle Bar & Grill

Motor Isle Bar & Grill is a motorsport-themed sports bar and restaurant in the heart of Douglas, Isle of Man.

Celebrating the island’s rich racing heritage, the venue combines American diner-style food and a fully stocked bar with live motorsport and other major sporting events.

The Brief

In partnership with SODA Group, TVC Technology Solutions was asked to design and deliver a fully integrated audio-visual system for Motor Isle Bar & Grill, bringing together indoor LED displays, commercial televisions, booth screens, digital signage, AV distribution, zoned audio, control and lighting within one coordinated environment.

Each customer area needed to perform a distinct role while remaining connected to the wider venue. Motor Isle required high-impact canvases for live sport and branded content, closer-range screens for intimate viewing in booths, clear audio throughout the principal trading areas and the flexibility to send shared or independent content to different zones.

The system also needed to be straightforward for employees to operate during busy service periods.

The Delivery

Indoor LED Displays

We created three bespoke indoor LED displays with a combined area of just over 24 square metres. A 5.5m x 1.25m P2.97mm display sits above the bar, while a larger 7.75m x 1.25m P2.97mm canvas spans the purchasing and merchandising area. A third 3m x 2.5m P1.5mm COT display forms a high-resolution photo opportunity within the venue.

Each display is driven by its own MySign digital signage player. The bar and merchandising screens can each accommodate two picture-in-picture feeds, while the photo display also accepts a dedicated picture-in-picture source.

This allows live sport, promotional graphics and Motor Isle branding to be combined across the venue’s most prominent visual features – a major plus point for the venue where “all-at-once” marketing is critical.

LG Commercial TVs

We supplied five LG commercial TVs: four 86-inch displays and one 65-inch model.

Positioned across the booth and raised seating areas, the screens create clear, large-format viewing points for live motorsport, football and other entertainment throughout Motor Isle Bar & Grill.

This is vitally important as, during major sporting events, screen visibility is of vital importance and, with this screen setup around the venue, all customers are able to watch with ease.

Professional Peerless flat wall mounts keep each display securely integrated into the interior and secure all screens in place without taking away from the Motor Isle racing aesthetic.

iiyama ProLite Screens

Ten 15.6-inch iiyama ProLite Full HD screens support the booth and ordering experience. Their IP54-rated design provides added protection for a busy hospitality environment, while their compact format makes content easy to view at close range without overwhelming the booth layout.

The displays are arranged as two banks of four booth screens. Three Lindy 1:4 HDBaseT splitter-extenders divide them into three independent zones, using the venue’s IT cabling and three WyreStorm decoders so every screen within a group receives consistent content.

With this solution, customers of Motor Isle are able to enjoy their dining experience with the added benefit of having all the live action right in front of them at their booths.

Audac Loudspeakers

TVC delivered a four-zone Audac audio system designed around the different character of the bar, booths, raised area and toilets. Four Vexo 108 loudspeakers provide foreground sound around the bar, supported by an Archi 210 double-10-inch subwoofer for greater low-frequency impact.

Six Ateo 6M loudspeakers cover the booth area and a further four serve the raised seating zone, while two Cira 7 ceiling speakers provide discreet coverage within the toilets. This final arrangement comprises 16 loudspeakers and one dedicated subwoofer, positioned to deliver clear and even sound without relying on excessive volume from any single point.

Audac SMQ350 and CAP424 amplification is managed through an Optimal Audio Z4 controller, with Bluetooth input and iPad-based control also provided.

Employees can adjust sources and levels by zone, helping the atmosphere remain appropriate as the venue changes from dining and live sport to evening entertainment.

WyreStorm Signal Distribution

At the centre of the video system is a WyreStorm NetworkHD AV-over-IP platform, built around a NetworkHD Pro Controller.

The completed specification incorporates eight transmitters and 13 receivers across the principal system.

Ten receivers support the final LG television and indoor LED network, including the five picture-in-picture feeds used across the three LED displays. A further three receivers feed the HDBaseT splitters serving the ten iiyama screens, while the transmitters connect MySign players, live television sources and the two local HDMI and XLR input points.

This network-based approach gives Motor Isle the freedom to distribute a single event throughout the venue or tailor content to individual areas.

Touch and companion app control keeps day-to-day source selection straightforward, while the central architecture is easier to maintain and expand than a collection of separate point-to-point systems.

MySign Digital Signage

Six MySign commercial-grade media players, each supported by a cloud-based software licence, provide the digital signage platform for Motor Isle Bar & Grill.

The final system includes the four players specified for the principal LED and 16:9 signage feeds, plus two additional players introduced to extend content coverage.

Motor Isle can update promotions, menus, events, offers and branded messaging centrally without interrupting live entertainment elsewhere.

Content can be scheduled in advance and assigned to the most relevant screens, giving employees a practical way to keep customer-facing information current throughout the trading day.

Additional Extras

The wider installation includes two framed exterior LED ticker displays, each measuring 4.48m x 2.88m and controlled by a dedicated controller. Two IP65 rotating projectors display custom Motor Isle artwork outside, creating a strong visual identity before customers enter the venue.

Inside, four moving-head lighting effects are linked through a dedicated DMX controller to add energy around the bar and merchandising areas. A wall-mounted 11-inch iPad provides convenient audio and video control, while two combined HDMI and XLR input plates allow temporary sources or event equipment to be connected locally.

An Audio-Technica System 20 Pro dual-handheld wireless microphone package, complete with a two-bay charging station, supports announcements, hosted events and live entertainment.

TVC also added a dedicated recording output at the AV rack, together with a remote-support PC and a structured 32U rack to keep the central equipment secure, organised and accessible for servicing.

The Result

The completed solution gives Motor Isle Bar & Grill a coordinated technology environment shaped around food, live sport, motorsport and entertainment. Three dramatic indoor LED displays establish the venue’s visual identity, while the LG and iiyama screen networks keep content clearly visible across seating and ordering areas.

Customers benefit from strong sightlines, targeted information and balanced zoned audio wherever they are positioned. Exterior ticker displays, custom logo projection and dynamic lighting extend the experience beyond the core screen network and help Motor Isle make an immediate impact from Wellington Street.

For employees, WyreStorm distribution, MySign cloud management and central iPad control reduce the need to operate multiple standalone systems. Sources, signage and audio zones can be adapted throughout the day, giving the venue the flexibility to respond to changing events, promotions and audiences.

With a structured rack, remote support and a scalable AV-over-IP foundation, the installation also gives Motor Isle a practical platform for future content sources, display additions and new customer experiences.
