We are proud to have delivered a full, venue-wide audiovisual transformation for The Tin Mill, a brand-new Amber Taverns site located in Whitchurch, Cardiff.
Designed to support live sport, social entertainment and all-day trading, the project required a robust, flexible and immersive AV solution that would enhance atmosphere while remaining simple for staff to operate.
Visual display was a key element of the brief at The Tin Mill, with clear sightlines and flexibility for live sport and entertainment across all areas. The main bar and raised seating zones were equipped with a combination of 65-inch and 55-inch Samsung 4K hospitality displays, professionally mounted to deliver excellent visibility from every angle. These screens provide vibrant picture quality, are built for extended commercial use and include hospitality-grade warranties for peace of mind.
Additional displays were installed in the darts area and outdoor spaces, including a weather-protected screen housed within a specialist outdoor enclosure on the ground floor terrace. Provision was also made for future expansion, with cabling installed to support additional outdoor TV positions should the venue’s needs evolve.
All screens are connected via a high-definition 8×8 matrix system, allowing different content to be shown on individual displays or mirrored across zones. This gives The Tin Mill complete control over how sport, promotions and entertainment are presented throughout the venue.
Audio performance was carefully zoned to suit the character of each space within The Tin Mill. High-power Audac loudspeakers and subwoofers were installed throughout the main bar and raised seating areas, delivering clear, impactful sound that enhances atmosphere without overpowering conversation. In the darts area, dedicated speakers ensure focused audio coverage, while IP-rated outdoor speakers provide reliable sound for external trading areas.
At the heart of the system sits an Optimal Audio multi-zone control platform with DSP, allowing precise tuning and independent control of each audio zone. Wall-mounted zone controllers give staff intuitive volume control where required, while the core system ensures consistent sound quality across the entire venue.
To simplify day-to-day operation, The Tin Mill was equipped with an integrated control solution that brings all content sources together. A central control platform allows staff to manage AV sources and routing with ease, supported by a dedicated touchscreen interface installed behind the bar.
The system was pre-built and commissioned off-site before installation, reducing on-site disruption and ensuring a smooth handover. Once installed, our engineers completed full system commissioning and provided staff training to ensure confidence in using the technology from day one.
To complement the audio and visual systems, bespoke LED lighting was incorporated throughout The Tin Mill. Custom RGBW LED tape was installed to the bar areas, with colour-changing control to support different moods and events. Dedicated white lighting was added to highlight the darts areas, alongside feature neon signage supplied by the client.
This layered lighting approach enhances the overall atmosphere of the venue, helping The Tin Mill transition seamlessly from daytime trading to evening entertainment.
Behind the scenes, professional equipment racks house all AV, RF distribution and IT infrastructure, ensuring tidy installation, effective cooling and easy maintenance. Satellite and terrestrial TV distribution was installed to feed all screens reliably, while structured cabling throughout the venue supports future technology upgrades.
